1. Hit detection on tackles need to be more accurate. For example in the first game if you broke away the pursuing players could not make the tackle and would just fall down. Probably because of the lack of a diving tackle key.
2. Pursuit angles: No Congo lines please. Proper angles to chase down players is so important in a simulation football game.
3.Please add the ability to flip plays at the line and send players in motion.
4. The A gap exploit needs to be fixed for this new version. There is also an exploit where if you adjust your secondary and play them back the A.I will throw a very quick pass that only gets like 1 or 2 yards and sometimes no yards.
5.Lets get the A.I to move more before the snap and make shifts on defense. Giving the players little gestures like finger pointing or leaning in close to the line will add more life.

This is difficult because defenders do not pursue to the ball, which is likely how the AI is coded, they take an angle to where the ball carrier is anticipated to be after pursuit, or defenders contain a side or edge.
When designing plays for Maximum Football, the zones could be set up any any size and depth, and that helped. That game cheated a bit by giving defenders a burst of speed to recover. That helped too, but it made break away runs a problem because defenders could catch up too often.
The defense is always more difficult to design and code than the offense.
